"9 13," as his voice cracked......
We all tried to hide a gasp....she weighed 9' 13?!?
I mean, 15 days overdue.....none of us would be entirely shocked.
"No, 9:13pm, she started pushing at 8:00pm....and she was born at 9:13pm. I just don't know how someone as physically exhausted as she was, was able to do what she just did.".....through a waivering voice and tears.
Pride. Thankfulness. Joy.
Something no one can explain, no man can wrap their mind around, until it's their wife, their child. It is fascinating to me, really. The affect babies and birth have on men.
Not just "ANY" baby. Their baby. And their wife giving birth.
It's enough to bring a grown man to his knees in full out weeping.
And, I don't know about you, but my guy doesn't just cry for fun.
But when he met his baby boys, there were tears to go around.
But it's not just the tears that are the difference.
It's the sudden gentleness....
...they speak more softly,
....smile constantly,
....even drive slower.
And a few weeks later, the new "normal" subsides.
Toddlers don't have this affect, teenagers certainly don't have this affect.
Just a newborn. Cheese and all.
And they wonder....the wonder WHY maybe we would like to go through the 9 months of discomfort. The hours of labor and pain of pushing all over again.
It's not that we forget.
It's that we remember THIS
