Distinctly Different

From the moment the crying and hysterics ended when Barb, the ultrasonagrapher said "It's Twins!", the questions started to roll.

Will they be boys or girls?

What will they look like?

Will they be identical or fraternal?

.....WE are having TWINS?!

Okay, so maybe it wasn't the exact moment that the hysterics stopped, but it was shortly after the month long "Freak out" ended.

So, Silas and Owen have arrived, and have actually been here for 7 weeks now. Every twin mom I met (and thats alot) told me that no matter what, fraternal or identical, your babies will be individuals and you will see soo many differences in them.

Biology Lesson Quicky:

The boys are fraternal twins. They actually ended up having different blood types. There was however, only one placenta. For a short time, our doctor was puzzled by the whole thing....one placenta, normally indicates identical, but they look so different?! Actually what he found had probably happened was that the two had separately implanted so closely together, that their placentas grew together. In our situation, everything worked out just fine, but we were told that often when this happens either you birth conjoined twins, or one baby steals the nutrition from the other and you lose one of the two. No doubt, God was watching out for these boys!

And they are completely different!

Namesake: Owen, Welsh form of the name John, my deceased maternal grandfather.

Don, Jesse's dad, paternal grandfather and my paternal grandfather

Birth weight: 6lbs 3 oz., 19in.

Last weight: 8lbs 1 oz, 21 in.

Plenty of light brown hair, receding-ish hairline (he got that from his Uncle Josh :P)

Slender face, but larger chest that brother

Master of the "Old Man Face"

Often furrowed brow

Casual eater, slow, and never the first one to say "I'm hungry"

Hates having dirty pants and a bath

Has an angry cry (LOUD angry)

"Needs" his paci

Loves the swing, tummy time and being cuddled

Rolled from tummy to back last Monday

Silas Dean, younger twin, 6:46pm

Namesake: Silas (a name we liked....see the Bible), Dean, my father's middle name

Birth Weight: 6lbs 10oz, 19 in.

Last weight: 8lbs 9 oz. 21 1/2 in.

Tons of black hair, unruly black hair. Black "fuzz" on shoulders and back

Chubby, kissable cheeks

Blue-ish eyes. Master of the Puppy Dog Eyes

Small round mouth

Steady, easy-does-it eater. Our "3-hour stop watch"

Casual, pathetic-ish cry

Enjoys that 'paci', but can't keep ahold of it

Easily startled

Loves to be cuddled
